Tobias Larsson is a Swedish-born, renowned theatre, musical, and circus director, celebrated for his innovative and original work. With extensive experience in the performing arts, Tobias is a pioneer in using scent as a storytelling tool on stage. Educated at the musical theatre program of the Academy of Ballet in Sweden, his most cherished productions include Moulin Rouge in Paris, West Side Story, Sweet Charity, and Threepenny Opera.


Tobias made his international debut at the iconic Lido de Paris and has since worked on many of the biggest stages in Europe and the United States. In New York City, he was a close collaborator and mentee of Tommy Tune, directing a wide array of stars including Thelma Houston, Sean Penn, Robin Williams, Joan Baez, and Liliane Montevecchi. He worked closely with James Lapine and Barbara Cook in developing her off-Broadway one woman show Then and Now.


As resident Director, Tobias staged over 20 productions for Teatro ZinZanni in Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago and Los Angeles. His artistic contributions were recognised when he was granted U.S. citizenship as an “Alien of Extraordinary Ability in the field of Art.” He later became Artistic Director at Carrousel de Paris, where he created a unique hybrid of late night cabaret and cirque.


His work includes directing and choreographing the critically acclaimed Ghost the Musical at Tivoli in Copenhagen and co-directing the world premiere of Djævelens Lærling with Peter Langdal. Recently he staged a ballet as Artistic Director in collaboration with french fashion house Christian Dior. Tobias is currently working with Broadway composer Maury Yeston on Empress of The Night, a musical about the life and legacy of Hélène Martini and with Tilde Björfors, Cirkus Cirkör, on a new Circus Ballet inspired by Federico Fellini. Constantly pushing the boundaries of live performance, Tobias continues to create groundbreaking work that combines theatrical flair with sensory experiences, captivating audiences worldwide.
